Carbon is looking to add on an Underwriter to the team! Within established authority limits and guidelines, the Stop Loss Underwriter will analyze, and price insurance risks based on factors such as experience, census, plan, and any other factors having a bearing on the risk to be assumed. Within this role you will have the opportunity to develop and maintain relations with marketing personnel, TPAs, brokers, issuing companies and others as appropriate.

 

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform underwriting review of cases up to 2000 lives; confer appropriately on watch list groups or those that require peer review.
  • Negotiate rates and approve discounts within guidelines; identify and transition larger, more complex cases to consultant or management underwriting level.
  • Demonstrate ability to handle cases that are increasingly more complex in terms of risk and size.
  • Develop relationships and provide service to assigned TPAs & brokers; analyze assigned TPA and broker portfolios; evaluate quality of business; identify potential opportunities or problems.
  • Make independent calls to TPAs/brokers to market products, resolve problems, or enhance relationships.
  • Track and monitor quote activity and loss ratios in assigned block of business.
  • As directed by management, participate in policy and procedure development.
  • Continue HIAA, FLMI or other industry related courses as appropriate.
  • Quote cases within established deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience of MGU or Stop Loss Underwriting.
  • Technical knowledge for underwriting level.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills.
  • Skillful time management and the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and interruptions in a high volume.
  • Strong math skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, advanced analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Work independently and as part of a team; maintain relationships with external customers.
  • Management and growth of assigned block; maintain profitability on both new and renewal business.
