We are looking for a dynamic, driven leader to join us in the role of Chief Underwriting Officer to confidently lead underwriting strategy and innovation at NSM. Quite simply, we are looking for a trailblazer who thrives on building successful programs and is a master relationship builder to get the job done. This is a mission critical role as NSM continues to grow and expand its niche insurance offerings across a wide array of industries.

 

In this role, it will be imperative to partner with key stakeholders across the NSM enterprise to monitor and evaluate the underwriting profitability and drive profitable growth for all commercial P&C programs at NSM.

 

To be successful in this role, you must exhibit strong leadership abilities, be nimble and able to execute quickly but also have a strategic vision on how to achieve the company’s long-range goals. You will serve as a strategic resource for program directors and underwriting teams to help position them for success. You will also be responsible for cultivating productive relationships with our key carrier partners.

 

**Hybrid position, located at the Conshohocken, PA Home Office.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and evaluate the underwriting profitability of the programs. Initiate corrective action or program expansion as appropriate.
  • Cultivate and foster relationships with carrier partners through continuous multiple touchpoints which include face to face, video conference, audits, and phone contacts.
  • Provide oversight of underwriting standards and compliance with carrier authority.
  • Be a resource for Program Directors and underwriting teams.
  • Oversee Program Underwriting Training and Development.
  • Develop product enhancements or new products as needed.
  • Oversee filing process with vendor. Approve draft filings and provide responses to objections.
  • Achieve outstanding results in carrier underwriting audits.
  • Analyze program premium and loss results through use of Power BI and other tools available.
  • Review program losses to identify trends by Line of business, segment, state, etc. Facilitate corrective actions or opportunities from analysis. 
  • Monitor underwriting guidelines for compliance and changes as needed.
  • Hold periodic meetings with Program Directors to stay in tune with business and their needs.
  • Monitor individual program pricing initiatives and achievement of these plans.
  • Review internal underwriting audit results and provide guidance to programs as needed.
  • Review and analyze forms as needed to ensure underwriting intent.
  • Additional duties as identified.

 

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of commercial underwriting experience, with significant leadership experience.
  • Expertise in general liability, property, auto, professional and workers compensation.
  • P&C License.
  • Program experience a plus.
  • Superior skills in data analysis to determine performance trends and program deficiencies.
  • Experience in building and maintaining strong business relationships.
  • Model behaviors consistent with a high-performance culture — must have strong organizational and time management skills, accountable and adaptive to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel and attend key insurance industry conferences and networking events to represent NSM.
